The Juneau Ski Club returned to the Alyeska Race Trail in Girdwood Feb. 14-17 with 14 racers spread out in six races in the Aleyska Cup to earn qualifying points for the Western Region Championships held mid-March in Schweitzer! Idaho and Mammoth Mountain! California.
JSC had four top-five finishes with Angus Andrews placing third in a U16 boy’s giant slalom race! Spencer Stell third in an U12 boy’s giant slalom race! Alexander Andrews fourth in a U14 men’s slalom and Maddie Dale a fifth in a U16 women’s giant slalom race.
Skiing just 36 miles south of Anchorage with their largest travel group of skiers in recent years the team continued to make positive runs in a season that features low snow on their home mountain at Eaglecrest.
“This is the largest group Juneau has brought and it really shows the growth and depth of the Juneau Ski Club!” JSC coach Kevin Stell said. “I’m very proud of the results from all our athletes at these races. We have country wise email marketing list had challenging snow conditions here at Eaglecrest this season which has limited our training and prep time for competition this season.”
At Alyeska the U12-14 age groups raced one Slalom and one Giant Slalom and the U16-18 age groups raced two Slalom and two Giant Slalom races.
“In all races! U14 and older athletes earned points for juneau ski club takes qualifying for Western Region Championships!” Coach Stell said. “Our JSC racers had great results in both Slalom and Giant Slalom races against a field of the top racers from Alyeska Ski Club (ASC)! Hilltop Alpine Race Team (HART)! and Arctic Valley Ski Club (AVSC).
